Our first pediatrician gave us a booklet that had this chart. It is supposed to reassure first time parents when they realize that parenthood isn't a bed of roses. Dan and I have often referred to this chart, and it was a big help when Anna was born. I guess Rachel and Caleb have been easier as infants, since we didn't have such a low dip with them. Caleb is now 3 months old, and life is indeed getting easier. Yay.

The director of Ben's family medicine residency (who is also a family medicine doctor himself) told us that he believed the 6-week smile was an evolutionary necessity: "Those babies who waited until 8 weeks to smile were left out on rocks by their exhausted parents." This made me feel better about the challenging time we were having in the beginning.
He is so darling!!
How does the curve look after 4 months?
